Frühstück in Berlin: Haferkater

Haferkater ist definitiv nicht neu für die meisten aus Berlin und mittlerweile ist das Unternehmen sogar Deutschlandweit vertreten. Die Bilder aus diesem Post sind bereits vor längerer Zeit entstanden, jedoch fehlt bisher die Zeit einen Blogeintrag dazu zu verfassen. In Berlin ist der Haferkater zweimal vertreten, einmal in Prenzlauer Berg und einmal am Bahnhof Friedrichstraße. Haferkater ist auf traditionellen schottischen Porridge spezialisiert und hat mich definitiv dem ganzen Porridge-Hype etwas näher gebracht. Ich komme nur selten hier vorbei, da es einfach nicht auf einem meiner Wege liegt. Jedes Mal wenn ich dort war, habe ich bereits einen anderen Porridge probiert und war jedes mal sehr zufrieden mit meiner Wahl. Auch wenn ich meine eigenen Kreationen zu Hause mittlerweile etwas lieber esse, ist es trotzdem ein schöner Ort um sich auf ein Frühstück zu treffen. Man kann die Porridge Varianten auch alle wunderbar to-go nehmen und dann im Büro, im Park oder zu hause genießen. Ernährung Pt. I – Ein Anfang

Lange habe ich überlegt ob ich das Thema Ernährung hier ausführlicher auf dem Blog aufgreife. Schließlich ist das Feld einfach riesig und ich keine Ernährungsexpertin. Dennoch habe ich mich seit geraumer Zeit immer mehr damit beschäftigt, was ich in meinen Körper “packe”. Bekanntlicht heißt es ja: du bist, was du isst. Und das Ernährung sich entscheidend auf den Körper, den Geist und unsere Emotionen auswirken kann, ist ja schon länger bewiesen. Wer kennt es nicht, das “hangry”-Gefühl wenn man mal wieder nichts zu Essen in der Nähe hat und dann schlechte Laune bekommt? Vielleicht haben einige jetzt den ultimativen Essensguide erwartet, jedoch muss ich euch diesbezüglich leider enttäuschen. Denn ich habe zum Teil selber noch nicht die absolut richtige Ernährungsweise für mich gefunden. Seit einer Woche habe ich begonnen meine Lebensmittel zu listen um eine Übersicht darüber zu bekommen was mir welche Nährstoffe gibt. Lunch in Berlin: Café Oliv / Oliv Eat

Whereas Café Oliv in Münzstraße is already established in Berlin Mitte for a while, now the second café/restaurant of the two owners opened at Potsdamer Straße. Last week, we checked out both locations. Both are stylish in a minimalistic way – the color oliv is like a red thread and pops up every now and then, for example in form of the beautiful chairs in Oliv Eat. The food is similarly simple but delicious: I enjoyed some pasta with asparagus, peas and some very light white wine sauce – it was a perfect lunch dish! Homemade Bircher Müsli

It has become somewhat of a routine for me – lately, I always prepare my breakfast in advance in order to safe time in the morning. For that reason, I love to prepare bircher muesli, because it is easy, delicious and healthy at the same time! I always prepare a big bowl that lasts a whole week in the fridge and top it with fresh berries to get some extra freshness. To be honest, I normally mix the bircher muesli by feel and put in what I like at the time. Here’s a rough recipe: two parts spelt oats (I always take the fine ones, so it gets really creamy!) cranberries raisins dried apricots shredded coconut one fresh apple (cut in tiny pieces) a dash of cinnamon soy milk I mix all the dry ingredients and stir them until mixed through. Then I fill it up with soy milk so that everything is covered. Leave in the fridge over night and enjoy every day!

Cauliflower Mushroom Ragout with Saffron

Today we would like to share a new vegan and gluten free recipe with you. Its super delicious and healthy at the same time. What you need: 500g cauliflower 160g champignons 160g mushrooms 160g carrots 80g diced onions 1,5 tbs cornmeal 500ml vegetable broth 2 tbs sunflower seeds 125ml vegan cream 125ml soy yogurt knife point of saffron 1 tbs parsley salt, pepper “Wash the cauliflower roses and blanch them in bubbling salt water. Chill with cold water afterwards. Clean and quarter the champignons and mushrooms. Peel the carrots and cut into slices. Roast the diced onions with olive oil in a big pan (all ingredients will end up in this one pan). Add the sunflower seeds and roast them, too. Dust with cornmeal and add cold vegetable broth. Then add the vegan cream and bring to boil. Really gentle roast the champignons, mushrooms and carrots in olive oil, then add these to the sauce. Now add the cauliflower roses to the sauce. In the next step add parsley, saffron and soy yogurt, season with salt …

Newest addition to the Berlin brunch scene and personal project: Rose Garden. Rose Garden is a deli & concept store situated directly at Torstraße / Alte Schönhauser Straße. The deli offers breakfast, brunch, lunch and since a couple of weeks also dinner (we will give you another insight on that one too). Coconut Chia Snack

Here comes another delicious breakfast and on-the-go inspiration for you. This time it’s from the book Good to Glow by Tali Shine and Steph Adams. Make sure to prepare this one night in advance. What you need: 400ml coconut milk 20ml agave syrup 60g white chia seeds (I used black seeds) 500g coconut yogurt (it also works with plain yogurt) granola, seeds and fruits for garnishing “Combine coconut milk, agave syrup and chia seeds in a bowl and store in the fridge for two hours. Add the coconut yogurt and let it in the fridge over night. Put mixture (as much as desvered) into a small bowl and add granola, other seeds and berries of your choice.” – Good to Glow, p. 75  

Quinoa with Yogurt, Raspberries and Walnuts Bowl

This Christmas I had quite a few cook books on my wish list and was super happy when most of them landed under the tree. This recipe is from the book The Grain Bowl (thank you, Swenja!) by Nik Williamson and I absolutely love making this breakfast bowl in the morning. What you need: Serves 2 65g Quinoa 250ml Almond or hazelnut milk 50g rolled oats 100g rasperries 4 tablespoons honey 120g whole (full-fat) yogurt 4 tablespoons chopped hazelnuts optional: I added blueberries and walnuts “Put the quinoa into a medium pan, pour in the almond milk and 250ml water and place over high heat. Bring to boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes. Add the oats and increase the heat to medium. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes, or until the porridge reaches the desired consistency. You may need to add up to 120ml more water if the quinoa absorbs too much liquid. Remove from the heat. Dinner in Berlin: Brasserie Colette

Another culinary highlight lead by Tim Raue was recently opened in Berlin. Directly across the street from famous KaDeWe, Brasserie Colette is a French Bistro at high level. What I loved most about Colette is the elegant interior – the overall tone is dark, there is lots of golden elements, colorful floral cushions and a (typically French) wooden built-in shelf. The food is delicious and fine, maybe the portions are somewhat smaller than you would expect at a Brasserie… But apart from that, we can only recommend this place for a cozy dinner! Brunch in Berlin: die Stulle

I always love to discover new brunch places in my neighborhood Charlottenburg / Wilmersdorf. Recently, we discovered this place called “Die Stulle“, the German name for bread. It’s a cozy and cute place, decorated with a lot of love and the food is just awesome. We are huge fans of the pancakes and all variations of sourdough bread with different homemade spreads!
