Must see in New York: Columbia University

On a beautiful autumn day we grabbed the chance to visit the main campus of the famous Columbia University (hello, Gossip Girl!). The whole area is really beautiful arranged, calm and worth visiting for an afternoon. Instantly you would love to study here just because of the relaxed atmosphere. It certainly feels like a different world than New York City – a get-away for heart and soul. Columbia University 116th St & Broadway New York, NY 10027 United States

Must see in New York: Brooklyn Botanic Garden

If you have a little more time and you want to escape the loud streets of Manhattan, we can recommend to visit the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The huge park takes you on a journey through different types of botanic, there is a beautiful rose garden, a Japanese Garden, a Cherry Esplanade, a breathtaking Tropical pavilion and so much more… Brooklyn Botanic Garden 990 Washington Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11225 What To Wear to this location

Brunch in New York: Jack’s Wife Freda

New York has so many good brunch places – today we tried another. Jack’s Wife Freda is situated in New York’s cool West Village, on Lafayette Street and a total must for brunch fans like us. The menu serves classic american dishes with mediterranean influences. The atmosphere is familiar and everyone is extremely friendly. I also liked the simple but chic american bistro-like interior. How to find a Room in NYC

To live in New York City for a while is the dream of many. However once you have managed to get a work placement/internship or other occupation in New York you will feel relieved but that is obviously where the real work starts. One of the hardest tasks for international students is to find a decent room worth the money and in a good location. Let me tell you: it is hard but not impossible. Since we both already made some experiences with finding a place to stay in New York, we would like to recommend Manhattan Next to you. Manhattan Next is a rental agency helping young professionals and students to find accommodations that fit their needs. Manhattan Next will guide you through the often time-consuming and difficult process of finding your perfect room. They are always available via phone or email and help you with all questions you might have. Also Manhattan Next does not demand a American social security number, US guarantor, broker, minimum time of stay or payment history in the US. To make a long story short: it’s the perfect …

Dinner in New York: Gotham West Market

New York is mostly a forerunner in many categories, this also applies to food. During my time in New York I discovered that they have a lot of these so called markets. Here you find different little vendors which offer a variety of food. The most famous is probably Chelsea Market in the Meatpacking district area. But its always packed with tourists. So, here we have something more delicate for you. The Gotham West Market is located in the Hell’s Kitchen area and offers a delicious list of culinary offerings. It’s a place where young people meet and hang-out in the evening. I can highly recommend Ivan Ramen Slurp soup (Breakfast All Day Ramen and the Shrimp Buns – delicious!) , Ample Hills ice cream (post coming soon on this) and the Blue Bottle coffee (see our experience about this here!). Sweet Treat in New York: Alice`s Tea Cup

Living in England made me fall for one thing over and over again: scones with jam and clotted cream! It just happens to be a secret addiction and when ever I see a chance to eat this delight somewhere I’ll go for it. However it’s not so easy to find s spot where they serve them right but Alice’s Tea Cup certainly knows how to please me. I already visited this place last year during my New York visit and had to come again this year. When you go there, try the combination of a small tea pot and two scones of your choice (depending on their daily offer) for $ 13 Price $$$$$ // Service ☆☆☆☆☆ // Location ☆☆☆☆☆ // Taste ☆☆☆☆☆ Alice’s Tea Cup 102 West 73rd Street New York, NY 10023 open daily from 8am to 8pm What To Wear to this location

Culture in New York: Roosevelt Island

Roosevelt Island is a narrow island in New York City’s East River and definitely is worth a visit when staying in New York. Luckily the day I was there the weather was amazing, still there were not many people hanging around. It therefore it the ideal get-away place from the city if you are just longing for a close hide-away. You can get there by metro or take the Roosevelt Island Tramway.

Dinner in New York: Rosa Mexicano

I‘m a huge fan of Mexican cuisine and was more than pleased to try this restaurant after a friend recommended it to me. Rosa Mexicano is located just across the street from Lincoln Center and offers the perfect dining place before an evening at the ballet or the MET opera (they also have other locations around New York). The food was absolutely delicious and I can highly recommend the three tacos and a classic quesadilla. Make sure to share these dishes with a friend so you can really explore the diversity of Mexican food. Columbia University

We spent a super nice autumn afternoon exploring Columbia University! The campus is really impressive and totally worth a visit! On a Sunday, the place is quite calm – only some bookworms studying in the library! Trenchcoat – Club Monaco Pullover – H&M Leggings – H&M Shoes – Softclox

Lunch in New York: by Chloe.

If there is one thing that is unique about New York, it’s its culinary diversity. I am pretty sure that there is nearly nothing than you cannot find in this city, no matter what cuisine and style it is. By Chloe is a place that offers a healthy alternative to fast food – I would describe it as a hybrid fast food restaurant, since you get your food at the counter but still the atmosphere/interior is nice and you can sit down to eat after you took your order. The menu is heaven for health-freaks, vegans, vegetarians and all kinds of foodies. There are super nice salads (we can recommend the Quinoa Taco Salad!), as well as vegetarian burgers and the complementary sweet potato fries, which cannot be missing either! As in every in-place in New York, you’ll have to be a little patient to find a seat, since the place is usually packed. Ordering the food on the other hand is super fast and there is good service.
