Breakfast in Potsdam: Zweitwohnsitz

A few friends of mine already recommended this place to me and I was really happy to finally try it last Friday. Zweitwohnsitz (meaning like second home) is a small café located in Potsdam West. The interior is really charming and you feel home instantly. We headed there for breakfast but they also serve various lunch options, filled Pita breads and delicious looking cake (need to come back and try a slice). On a paper you can find various breakfast pieces and a free space to fill in a number of the amount you want. It offers you the chance to put together your own breakfast they way you want it to be. I absolutely loved the coffee because it was a good ground coffee, rich in smell and flavor. Besides normal milk they also offer soy, lactose-free and oat milk (my new favorite milk for coffee). I certainly need to come back since many people recommended me to go there on a Saturday for their brunch buffet. You see, still so many options to …

Culture in Potsdam: Museum Barberini

Since a few weeks the city center of Potsdam has been enriched by another great cultural attraction: the Museum Barberini. Filled with pieces reaching from the Old Masters to contemporary artists, this place is a true sensation for art lovers. It took quite some time to find the right place and building for the museum but with the newly build Plazzo Barberini the art, mainly sponsored by Hasso Plattner, has finally found a good setting. The architecture of the building is beautiful: free, spacious and filled with light. If you plan to visit the museum make sure to bring some time and make sure to buy some tickets before. Even though its already open since a few weeks there are still queue in front of the main entrance in the morning. Another great tip: download their free! App and enjoy some good, short entries on the art displayed in the museum. Museum Barberini Alter Markt Humboldtstraße 5–6 14467 Potsdam What To Wear to this location

Coffee in Potsdam: et cetera

Et cetera is a small café located in the center of Potsdam, linked to the city library. It offers a good range of sweet treats e.g. cakes, cookies and muffins as well as hearty tarts and a fresh soup (changing on a daily basis). I only had the chance to try a small chocolate ring cake but certainly will come back to try the other ones. The coffee was good, could have been a little hotter though. Besides normal milk they also offer soy milk (coasting 40cents extra). The interior is really warm and welcoming. They offer a good range of comfy seats and you can certainly stay for one or two hours. Sweet Treat in Potsdam: Die Eisfrau

This is probably the dream ice cream shop of our childhood. Cute stripped cups, fresh waffles, lovely toppings and delicious ice cream. Die Eisfrau offers all these aspects. Situated in Babelsberg, a district of Potsdam, this cute shop offers one of the best ice creams in town. The range of flavors changes daily and you will be able to try varieties such as chocolate with chili, rice pudding, grapefruit, Pina Colada or Cappuccino. Those of you who are looking for vegan ice cream, this is your place. Lunch in Potsdam: Fahland Bistro

Last month the bakery chain Fahland (to be found in Potsdam and the surrounding area) opened a bistro in the heart of Potsdam. This is a new addition to their former concept. Along with their baked goods they offer sandwiches, soups, quiches, hearty salads, cakes and little tartlets. The interior is nicely chosen: warm and welcoming (created by Martina Haag). But I was really disappointed by the service. The seller behind the counter seemed stressed and annoyed by someone ordering something. And this actually has a whole impact on your visit. The coffee wasn’t hot enough from the beginning which is why it cooled out too quickly. In total it was nice to try and the food was good but I guess I will not come back because of the unfriendly service and the cold coffee. Sweet Treat in Potsdam: Krümelfee

Cupcakes, small sweet treats varying in color, flavor and form. Normally we are not such big fans of these super sweet bits but those served at the Café Krümelfee are really enjoyable. Just the right amount of icing and size to be satisfied but not over-sweetened. You cans also enjoy a vegan creation if you wish. If you are suffering a lactose intolerance or just prefer other types of milk you will be happy here. Besides normal milk they also have soy milk in their range. And if you need a nice catering company they are happy to help you out. Healthy in Potsdam: good dEATs

The healthy eating trend is still growing strong and little cafés pop up like flowers in spring. Good dEATs, located in the heart of Potsdam, is another of these healthy spots. Everything served here is vegan. Mainly they offer breakfast and cakes as well as little chocolate bites. On Friday evening you can enjoy some vegan burgers. Culture in Potsdam/Berlin: Frauensache

A few weeks ago I had the great chance to visit Schloss Sanssouci (a local sightseeing highlight) on aMonday, a day when the doors normally stay closed for the public. From the 22nd of August until the 22nd of November the Stiftung Preußischer Schlösser und Gärten will be hosting the exhibition „Women’s Business. How Brandeburg became Prussia„. In this the Hohenzollern women are the center of attention, how they shaped the country, what goals they had and how ambitious they were. The main exhibition will be held at Schloss Charlottenburg in Berlin, in other castles such as Sanssouci, the visitors will find little information boxes for this purpose. When you are searching for a very special place to have breakfast, the Biosphäre Potsdam offers a unique experience to you. You can have brunch in their café, in between tropical plants, a fish pond where koi fish and turtles swim around and occasionally a parrot will fly by. However this is not a place for a spontaneous breakfast. You got to plan your visit in advance (at least two days before) and make a reservation. Dinner in Potsdam: My Keng

For the locals this place isn’t a big surprise but we still want to share it with all of you. My Keng is mainly know as a sushi bar in the heart of Potsdam serving also many other delicious dishes. All food they serve are absolutely delicious and super fresh. The open kitchen offers a direct insight and you can observe how your dish is prepared. The price range is average for good sushis. Avocado Makis cost 4.50 € and Anago Makis (salt water eel) cost 5.00 € – see these two in the pictures above. As a drink we highly recommend their Chanh Da a lime, mint and brown sugar mixture – super refreshing (coasting 3.80 €).
