Personal Issue: About dream roles, hard work and sacrifice

I think I was around fifteen/sixteen years old when I first realized how madly in love I am with dancing. Some people think this has always been the case when they meet me today. But to be honest: dancing before that was not my favorite kind-off sport (today I wouldn’t even call it sport anymore, I like to consider it a form of art). At the age of three my Mum took me to ballet class. Well, a dance class where you spin around a little, jump and just have fun. Because of my Dads work we moved places quite often and in every new city I would face a new dance studio, new people, new boundaries. Besides dancing I have always been very active and tried many different sports such as swimming, football, horse riding, badminton, athletics etc. and I was good in all of those fields. I just basically knew what type of sport fits me and my needs. I was horrible at volleyball in school and therefore I would never have taken …

The magic of working at the theater

Since nine years I have been a part of the Dance Academy Marita Erxleben. Each year we create a ballet inspired by a fairy tale. Over the years this has become a true tradition for me and since 2013 I started to snap some backstage pictures during rehearsals and performances. I love pictures taken from the audience area but my favorites are those that take you behind the main stage. This is the actual location where all the magic happens in my opinion. You can feel the tension, the excitement and the passion everyone shares. Here you see moments of joy, anxiety and anticipation. If you ever get the chance to work at a theater, take it. Here you are able to experience new roles and just escape the daily life.

Culture in Berlin: Gems of Tutu Art

What dreams are made of… On the 23rd of May the Staatsballett Berlin presented the costume exhibition “Gems of Tutu Art” to the public. Curated by Lorenzo Caprile and Dorothea Katzer at Bikini Berlin. The two curators have selected the most beautiful costumes from the collection of the Staatsballett Berlin. The selection reaches from classical tutus of the Romantic ballets to modern interpretations. The exhibition can be visited from 23 to 31 May 2016 during the opening times of the mall.
