Williamsburg Photo Diary

Once you are in New York longer than just a few weeks, you’ll start to discover one area at the time and eventually move to Brooklyn’s new hotspot – Williamsburg.

The area is mostly young and arty, with many wall paintings and cafes to hang out, as well as some rooftops to have a chilled glass of Brooklyn lager beer.

What I love most about this area is that around each corner, there is another interesting thing waiting and this district is so full of contrasts. We will keep you updated with our favorite spots in Williamsburg soon!

Farewell Dinner

This is going to be the last post from me in Berlin for a little while now as I have been heading to New York recently for some working experience in the fashion business!

I had a wonderful last night in Berlin with close friends and family at Grace Restaurant, wearing a simple black and white outfit with some rosé golden details.

Book Recommendation: How to be Parisian

This book isn’t something new for the fashion crowd out there. But since it was just released in German we thought it would be great to share it once more. The book is funny from the beginning until the end.

Caroline De Maigret along with three other French ladies tells all the women around the world how to be Parisian wherever you are. What key pieces you need to have in your closet and how, most important, your attitude and habits need to be.

There are no long essays but great short entries and so many good quotes everyone should keep in mind from time to time. After reading this book you start to feel a little more what life is about. It’s about living, give yourself the chance to do so and don’t let too many people judge your life after all.

My ten favorite places in Weimar

I would never ever have thought that I would be visiting Weimar more than once or twice. But with my boyfriend studying here it has become a regular weekend get-away destination for me. And honestly – I love this little city!

Therefore I’m really happy to share with you my ten favorite places around town.

1. Gelateria Giancarlo is probably the most amazing ice cream café I have ever been to. They have at least 50 different flavors every day and change them from time to time.

2. Goethes house – typical tourist destination but definitely worth a visit. Just seeing how much Goethe was collecting and studying is overwhelming.

3. The Bauhaus Museum along with the Bauhaus University is another aspect why Weimar is so famous.

4. Anno 1900 is a little restaurant located at the Goetheplatz serving delicious food – you will definitely love their menu!

5. The Anna Amalia Library should be at the top of your must-see list. The beautiful interior and the old books are just a feast for the eyes. In 2004 nearly everything was lost due to a huge fire – luckily the were able to save some famous pieces such as the first Luther Bible from 1534.

6. Franz & Willi is your place for some delicious burger, a clean interior and super nice service. Make sure to try cranberry mayonnaise.

7. The Park an der Ilm is the perfect escape for some fresh air and a relaxing afternoon in the sun.

8. The Hinterzimmer is a bar in Weimar where you can enjoy some cool drinks and talk to the local students.

9. Still needing a chic place to stay in town? Then I can warmly recommend the Weimar Design Apartments – clean and stylish they are the perfect weekend get-away. But be quick! They are regularly fully booked!

10. This is my latest addition on the Weimar list: Fama Café & Bücher. A small, cozy café where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast in the morning or some delicious cake in the afternoon.

New York Mood

Time is running like crazy and soon we both will be located in New York. Jana arrived safely in the Big Apple and enjoys some free time before her intership kicks-off.

I’m still in Berlin training and working before I will join Jana at the beginning of September. This will be a huge opportunity for both of us and we already got so many great things on our list.

I got this black leather bag the other day and absolutely love it. It’s from the label Irene Van Ryb, never heard of it before but fallen for it straight away. You won’t believe how hard it is to find a good, not too over priced black leather bag. Was looking for so long, this will join me on my journey to New York… as well as the jacket, of course.

Lago di Garda Photodiary

In summer there is probably no place more beautiful and relaxing than Italy! The Riviera, Aperol Spritz at sunset, gelato all day and different pasta obsessions – heaven!

Here are some impressions of a couple of days in paradise alias Lago di Garda.

Ten Things I learned from living in Amsterdam

A M S T E R D A M

1. It can be so easy to be friendly, nice and helpful. Just take a look at the Dutch people, they can show you how to do it.

2. When you study fashion or fashion management at any fashion school in the Netherlands, you’ll learn the importance of supporting young and upcoming designers or even design students. I have never witnessed a crowd of students so proudly wearing their study colleague’s designs.

3. The Dutch have an extraordinary taste in interior design. Since most Dutch leave their windows without any curtains, you get the chance to catch sight of their beautiful furniture and explicit homes.

4. There is no bad weather in Amsterdam. You’re just too weak or do not have the right clothes, get over it and it will make you stronger. Period.

5. There is no excuse for NOT riding you bicycle at any time. It does not matter if it rains, if there is a storm or sub zero temperatures – you have to t a k e y o u r b i k e at any cost.

6. Even though the Netherlands is a fairly small country on the map, their cultural heritage is as rich as a whole continent’s. The Dutch Golden Age is an especially interesting period, witnessing wealth and precious goods of Amsterdam’s as former trading power.

7. Amsterdam’s architecture is extraordinary in this world. I think it is most fascinating that one can see the city’s history in their architecture and the way it is built. When taking a boat on the Grachten, one can observe the old gables, once used to transport goods and food to the space underneath the roof. Apart from that, Amsterdam has a refreshing mix of modernity and history – there are super modern house boat lofts on the canals just opposite buildings from the 16th century.

8. The Dutch know how to party. King’s day is the most incredible street and obviously canal festival and party there is! The vibe and atmosphere is just thrilling!

9. Amsterdam as a city has an extremely high quality of life. It is small thus it does take a maximum of twenty minutes to get from A to B, what makes life easier than in bigger cities. Also, riding your bike everywhere you go provides you with a feel of personal freedom and keeps you fit at the same time. In my opinion this combination makes life a lot more enjoyable!

10. In Amsterdam you shouldn’t take life too serious. It is a place to work hard and accomplish your dreams but at the same time you should take it easy and have a good time! In my opinion Amsterdam is the perfect city for students and young professionals, still in search of their destination in life. I can only recommend to pass some time in this amazing city and profit from the inexplicable vibe!

Sweet Treat in Weimar: Koriat

When in Weimar you certainly shouldn’t miss this delicious sweet treat heaven.

Koriat is a local insiders’ tip serving delicious homemade cake with fresh and flavorful ingredients. In their display you will find a classical carrot cake next to a chocolate pecan cake orn a cheese-cherry-white chocolate cake (coasting from 2.50 to 3.00 €).

The range is quite big and you will have a problem to choose one in the end (extra note: it’s self-service here!)

Along with a tasty slice of cake make sure to drink a good, strong coffee to compensate the sweetness.

Dinner in Berlin: Dudu31

We both agree that sushi and asian food are amongst our favorite ever. That is why we were more than delighted when Dudu, having their original restaurant near Rosenthaler Platz, opened a second place in the heart of Berlin city West near Kurfürstendamm.

Dudu31 is a stylish location that serves traditional vietnamese cuisine with a modern twist, including extraordinary sushi creations, delicious curries and salads.

Staying in Weimar: Design Apartments Weimar

When thinking of Weimar you instantly think of Goethe and Schiller, theatre and Bauhaus. It’s this typical city nearly every school class visits and where you find a lot of sightseers. But besides all these cultural highlights, Weimar simply is a perfect little weekend get-away.

And therefore you of course need a cool place to stay. Of course you can choose on of those many hotels there but when you are looking for something more personal this is the right place for you.

Design Apartments Weimar are two holiday apartments you can rent during your stay in Weimar. The owners offer a big and a smaller flat furnished with interior design pieces from former Bauhaus University graduates who get the chance to present their pieces to the general public. Besides this you will be able to find design classics such as the Eames Plastic Side Chair.

But more important is, that you can buy the design pieces straight away. When staying in the apartment you somehow are in a showroom where you can find pieces for your own flat. The owners of the apartments offer an online store where you can find the delicate pieces.

Here are my top three designers from the apartment:

New Tendency
I looked through their online store a little and just got to love their click shelf (to be seen in picture Nr. 7 here). Online they also offer it in copper – definitely on my list.

Bartmann Berlin
The bed you see in picture Nr. 9 is from this brand and it’s called Unidorm. Thanks to the clever design it seems as if the bed is floating.

Laura Straßer
In cooperation with the Design Apartment Laura Straßer designed an exclusive porcelain collection which can be found as tableware in the flat (to be seen in picture Nr. 6)

If you are planing to stay at one of there apartments you got be quick and book in advance because their are nearly fully booked every month until October already. For price information check out their webpage. And follow them on Facebook and Instagram!
