Breakfast in Leipzig: Café Luise

During my short trip to Leipzig we had breakfast at Café Luise, a spacious spot offering breakfast, lunch, cake and dinner. You see, an all-rounder. We came here on a Saturday morning and had made a reservation beforehand since we were seven people in total and it wouldn’t have been easy to get a table for that amount of people. If you just want to drop in alone or with a friend you shouldn’t have a problem to get a table with a little wait. It wasn’t full that morning. All of us ordered different dishes. I wasn’t that hungry and decided to just go for some scrambled eggs and a roll. Others decided to try the English breakfast, pancakes or a Swedish breakfast mainly serving fish. Since I jus opt for this simple dish I can’t give you such a detailed insight to their breakfast. It was good but not overwhelming. The other dishes looked good but nothing we haven’t seen already. I somehow missed the little twist and felt everything was a little …

Breakfast in Munich: Cotidiano

I spotted this breakfast on various Instagram feeds and we therefore decided to try it out. Cotidiano (the one we went to) is located in the heart of Munich and was easy to reach by foot from our hotel. You can either come here for breakfast, lunch or dinner. We decided to go for a good breakfast. Their menu offers various dishes and I was instantly reminded of my time in New York. I choose their traditional Bircher Müsli which was absolutely delicious and had a Latte Macchiato to drink. My best friend went for a warm pretzel croissant filled with an goats cheese omelet and some greens. I tried a little of her dish and can also highly recommend it. The interior is warm and welcoming, you can easily sit here for one or two hours. When we came we had no problems getting a table (Saturday around 10am) but a little later the place was pretty crowded. During the week (Monday to Friday) they take table reservations, on the weekends you have to …

Breakfast in Munich: LAX Eatery

When I stepped into this little café in Munich I instantly felt like being back in New York again, enjoying a good brunch morning with Jana. Lax Eatery tries to convey the American west-coast feeling with palms and American road signs on the walls plus serving breakfast all day long. Also the food they serve seems really American inspired: fresh smoothies, blueberry pancakes, egg burritos and bread with smashed avocado. The menu is small but well organized and you easily find something. The place is small and on a Sunday morning pretty packed but we didn’t need to wait, one table was available straight away. My friend and I each went for the egg burritos and added extra avocado. As a sweet sensation we share the blueberry pancakes which were super fluffy. The coffee was good and their homemade ice tea really refreshing. All in all I can recommend this place. Maybe not for a big group of people (because of the space and their amount of big tables) but with a friend or alone …

Breakfast in Potsdam: BioBackHaus

Sometimes you just need a quick breakfast spot in town where you can enjoy a good coffee and some on-the-go snacks. The BioBackHaus ist located in the center of Potsdam, really close to the Dutch Quarter (a sight-seeing sensation in Potsdam). Back when we went to school, we quite often dropped by and got a bread roll or a piece of cake here since it was just around the corner from our main building. They serve bio products produced in Berlin and Brandenburg. Mainly they have focused on baked goods but for their breakfast offer they also have yogurt with fruits, scrambled eggs and cold cuts. The buns, bread slices and cake pieces are really delicious and also perfect to take-away. Of course the price range is a little higher than at a normal bakery but sometimes you can afford to get something here. Come here early in the morning on a sunny day and enjoy your coffee outside, sun-bathing including. Price $$$$$ // Service ☆☆☆☆☆ // Location ☆☆☆☆☆ // Taste ☆☆☆☆☆ no wifi available …

Breakfast in Potsdam: Zweitwohnsitz

A few friends of mine already recommended this place to me and I was really happy to finally try it last Friday. Zweitwohnsitz (meaning like second home) is a small café located in Potsdam West. The interior is really charming and you feel home instantly. We headed there for breakfast but they also serve various lunch options, filled Pita breads and delicious looking cake (need to come back and try a slice). On a paper you can find various breakfast pieces and a free space to fill in a number of the amount you want. It offers you the chance to put together your own breakfast they way you want it to be. I absolutely loved the coffee because it was a good ground coffee, rich in smell and flavor. Besides normal milk they also offer soy, lactose-free and oat milk (my new favorite milk for coffee). I certainly need to come back since many people recommended me to go there on a Saturday for their brunch buffet. You see, still so many options to …

Coffee in Berlin: Doppio Pazzo

Do you know this feeling when you walk through your neighborhood and spot something new that seems worth a visit? This just happened to us when we spotted Doppio Pazzo, a small café serving delicious coffee and various cakes, pastries, salads and breakfast treats. The clean interior kept in black, white and grey radiates a calm atmosphere and you can easily stay here for one or two hours. The coffee was served quickly, hot and had a delicious flavor (they seem to use a good type of bean). The coffee is a bit more expensive, soy and almond milk cost extra but its worth the price. We had the chance to try their overnight oats which are which are gluten- and sugar free. You can enjoy this healthy snack there or as take-away. Coconut Chia Snack

Here comes another delicious breakfast and on-the-go inspiration for you. This time it’s from the book Good to Glow by Tali Shine and Steph Adams. Make sure to prepare this one night in advance. What you need: 400ml coconut milk 20ml agave syrup 60g white chia seeds (I used black seeds) 500g coconut yogurt (it also works with plain yogurt) granola, seeds and fruits for garnishing “Combine coconut milk, agave syrup and chia seeds in a bowl and store in the fridge for two hours. Add the coconut yogurt and let it in the fridge over night. Put mixture (as much as desvered) into a small bowl and add granola, other seeds and berries of your choice.” – Good to Glow, p. 75

Quinoa with Yogurt, Raspberries and Walnuts Bowl

This Christmas I had quite a few cook books on my wish list and was super happy when most of them landed under the tree. This recipe is from the book The Grain Bowl (thank you, Swenja!) by Nik Williamson and I absolutely love making this breakfast bowl in the morning. What you need: Serves 2 65g Quinoa 250ml Almond or hazelnut milk 50g rolled oats 100g rasperries 4 tablespoons honey 120g whole (full-fat) yogurt 4 tablespoons chopped hazelnuts optional: I added blueberries and walnuts “Put the quinoa into a medium pan, pour in the almond milk and 250ml water and place over high heat. Bring to boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes. Add the oats and increase the heat to medium. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes, or until the porridge reaches the desired consistency. You may need to add up to 120ml more water if the quinoa absorbs too much liquid. Remove from the heat. Meanwhile, put the raspberries (and if also wanted blueberries) into a small …

Brunch in Berlin: Benedict

Berlin is such a vibrant, economically strong growing city that so many place pop-up around town like mushrooms. So many young, talented people come to Berlin to follow their dreams and establish a good growing business. One of those new in-locations is Benedict, an all-day breakfast spot close to Kurfürstendamm. Their menu is filled with typical breakfast dishes such as eggs benedict, omelettes, pancakes, french toast and granola dishes. We went for: – the vegan breakfast, a chickpea pancake with onions, corn and tomatoes. Served with delicious buns and three spreads (eggplant, tahini and beetroot humus) – the classic mini pancakes with maple syrup (favorite dish from our selection) – muesli with greek yogurt, fresh fruits and honey All in all it was a nice morning. If you consider going here make sure to have some time. When we arrived we had to put our names on a waiting list (they currently don’t take any reservations) and got our table about 20/25 minutes later. We both felt a little New-York-flash-back, there you always need to …
