Ten Things I learned from living in Amsterdam

A M S T E R D A M 1. It can be so easy to be friendly, nice and helpful. Just take a look at the Dutch people, they can show you how to do it. 2. When you study fashion or fashion management at any fashion school in the Netherlands, you’ll learn the importance of supporting young and upcoming designers or even design students. I have never witnessed a crowd of students so proudly wearing their study colleague’s designs. 3. The Dutch have an extraordinary taste in interior design. Since most Dutch leave their windows without any curtains, you get the chance to catch sight of their beautiful furniture and explicit homes. 4. There is no bad weather in Amsterdam. You’re just too weak or do not have the right clothes, get over it and it will make you stronger. Period. 5. There is no excuse for NOT riding you bicycle at any time. It does not matter if it rains, if there is a storm or sub zero temperatures – you have to t a k e y o …

My ten favorite Places in Amsterdam

1. CT Coffee and Coconuts is the best place in Amsterdam to have breakfast. Apart from this, I love the cozy yet exotic atmosphere the place has. 2. The Skylounge Amsterdam has a panoramic view of the whole metropolis. It is the perfect place to sit on the roof terrace and enjoy some cocktails with your friends. 3. If you are a fan of architecture, a stroll through Herengracht, Keizergracht and Prinsengracht should be enough to amaze your eye. 4. I love to buy my groceries at the Albert Cuyp Market. The De Pijp area is lovely and there are many small boutiques and cafés along the way. 5. The Vondel Park is Amsterdam’s biggest green oasis. You can go there for a run or a walk and observe many happy dogs playing in the meadows. 6. The EYE film museum doesn’t only show interesting exhibitions, it is also an architectural eye-catcher with a lot of wide space and sharp edges. Have a coffee or drink on the terrace or visit the restaurant. 7. The National Opera & Ballet house at Waterlooplein …

Dinner in Amsterdam: Ron Gastrobar

Ron’s gastrobar is by far my favorite restaurant in Amsterdam. It offers a wide range of delicious small meals that I would describe as European-fusion. The design is chic and classic, with ironic art pieces on the walls and newspaper like-designed menus. You should definitely try and take different dishes at your table, giving the chance to share the different culinary experiences! Amsterdam Photo Diary

After a super fun girls weekend together in Amsterdam there are still so many pictures to share with you. Today we therefore give you another inside look into what we did together. All in all the weather was great which isn’t granted at all. So we took the time to sit in the sun, enjoy some sparkling ice tea and stroll through all those beautiful canals. Also a slice of the best Amsterdam apple cake had to be on our to-do list (find out about this place here).

Drinks in Amsterdam: Mata Hari Bar

Mata Hari is a real insider’s tip in Amsterdam. The bar is hidden within the red light district and you wouldn’t expect such a cozy and comfortable atmosphere considering the surroundings. The interior consists of vintage furniture and many different antique details, building a casual hang-out setting. Upstairs is the restaurant, offering dishes with an exotic twist. Downstairs in the bar, a extensive drinks menu is awaiting, featuring classics like Moscow mule, different gin tonics or beers. The place is open daily for lunch, dinner and drinks and offers fair trade products whenever it is possible. Dinner in Amsterdam: Cannibale Royal

Before going to the Ballet, we spoiled ourselves with a cozy dinner at Cannibale Royale. The restaurant admittedly has a somehow awkward, ironic name and also the interior design makes you a little uncomfortable. Nevertheless, the atmosphere was familiar, cozy and the food was of high quality – if you love a nice burger or filet steak, this is your place to go! Culture in Amsterdam: La Dame Aux Camélias

Going out to see a Ballet performance is one of our favorite things to do together. So of course we couldn’t miss the beautiful performance of “La Dame Aux Camélias” by the Het National Ballet. The performance was breath-taking, we were so captivated by the exceptional choreography, which displayed very powerful, emotional moves. Apart from this, the National Opera and Ballet of Amsterdam is an extraordinary building with a view on the canals at sunset. Boots – Zara Jacket – H&M Bag – Louis Vuitton

Breakfast in Amsterdam: Bagels ‘n’ Beans

Even though Bagels ‘n’ Beans is a chain, having their cafés all over the Netherlands, I really like the place for having a small snack and a coffee. You can select from a wide variety of bagels as well as healthy breakfast dishes, smoothies and juices, that are all freshly made and very tasty. Drinks in Amsterdam: Skylounge

The Skylounge Amsterdam has a breathtaking panoramic view of the whole city – there are even “sky maps” that explain which buildings you can see, first thing when you enter the bar. The place is a meeting point for Amsterdamers and internationals from all over the world. It has a very cozy but straightforward and cosmopolitan atmosphere. You may either have coffee but truly this place lives up at night, when they serve the best cocktails in town. We can recommend the “Sky Thai” – an exotic version of Mai Thai served in a small Tikki cup. If you want to go all in, you’ll have to get “the Bartender’s skull”, which is a huge glass of a cocktail of your choice to share with your friends. Brunch in Amsterdam: CT Coffee and Coconuts

The building was a former cinema, build in the roaring twenties and you may see it – the place has a crazy interior of different levels and big black white photographs on the walls refer to movie stars and personalities with a cult status. CT Coffee&Coconuts is one of the best brunch places in Amsterdam. Apart from its cool interior that has something exotic the café serves delicious coffee and homemade tasty food. We can only highly recommend the full CT breakfast, which is a selection of all available breakfast specialities. You’ll get coconut pancake, a small granola, bread with avocado and eggs and mature dutch cheese. You’ll love it, we promise!
