Culture in Palma: La Seu Cathedral

The Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma (also known as La Seu) is probably one of those places I will never forget. Everything was truly mesmerizing. The architecture is a pure sensation. The Cathedral has been designed in the Catalan Gothic style but has been influenced by Northern European elements. The highlight was the huge rose window through which the light pours in the morning. This is one of the world’s largest: 12m across and studded with 1,236 pieces of stained glass. We highly recommend to come here in the morning since the light inside of the Cathedral is just divine. Tickets coast 7 € but you will not regret paying this. The audio guide is also included and you should take one along because they offer some great information. Make sure to wear long clothes. Way to many people came in shorts, skirts and short shirts. It’s just disrespectful.

Dinner in Palma: l’ambigú

During my short getaway to Palma we came across this little restaurant. Hidden behind a church in the old town of Palma l’ambigú offers a good selection of tapas and other main dishes. All three of us went for the same dish since it just sounded too good. As you can see in the pictures we had a burger toped with goats cheese and avocado cream, french fries, slices of corn and a salad consisting of small tomatoes and red cabbage. Thanks to the warm evening we were able to sit outside and enjoy the calmness of this location. If you want to enjoy a dinner here, we highly recommend to make a reservation beforehand. Otherwise you can wait between 30 minutes and an hour to get hold of a table. Breakfast in Palma: D’Horno

We stumbled across this place randomly during our second evening in Palma. After dinner we walked through the small streets and saw this little bakery, closed already. But the interior and the description seemed so welcoming that we figured out to have breakfast there the next morning. So, we did just that. Don’t expect scrambled eggs or toast, D’Horno serves freshly baked bread and pastries for example filled with tomato or spinach. My favorite treat? The wholewheat croissant! Outdoor in Palma: Platja de s’Oratori

During our short-trip to Palma we rented a flat via AirBnB. Our flat mates warmly encouraged us to take a bus out of Palma and visit one of the magnificent beaches along the coast line. It probably was the best decision. We took the bus number 106 and got off in Portals Nous. Here we just followed other people down to the beach and were rewarded with a stunning view. The beach we visited is called Platja de s’Oratori (found this out afterwards). The water was light blue/turquoise and there was nearly no breeze. We enjoyed a lovely day here. Nevertheless there were some negative aspects. In the late afternoon quite a lot of garbage was washed up the beach. Once again we are sadly reminded what humans do to the beautiful nature around us. Since it is a little bay, the dirt is easily transported here. Rubbish that has been chucked into the sea – how long will we still be able to bath in the ocean?

Dinner in Palma: The Boat House

While staying in Palma we tried to test various restaurants for dinner. Normally I like to check Instagram for recommended spots but this time we just strolled through town to find some nice places. One of those was this spot, located at the port of Palma. The Boat House offers meat, fresh fish, salads, pasta and risotto dishes. If you are three or more people I can highly recommend a jag of sangria to share. It just underlines the great location. I had a vegetable risotto which was delicious. The vegetables which came along with the fish were a little too oily but overall a good seaside dish. The atmosphere in the evening was just great and super relaxing. It really is a nice spot to visit with some friends, have a cocktail and let the day end in a good way. Golden Hour

I‘m back from a short but intense trip to Palma de Mallorca. It was an absolute pleasure to spend some quality time with two of my closest friends in this lovely town. In the next couple of weeks you will see a lot more impressions of this trip and some great tips on what to do, see and where to eat. During our visit we stay at an AirBnB flat with a marvelous roof terrace and a stunning view. In the afternoon/evening the light was just perfect to snap some summer pictures. We felt at home right away. Dress – Zara Sunglasses – RayBan
