Lunch in Potsdam: Fahland Bistro

Last month the bakery chain Fahland (to be found in Potsdam and the surrounding area) opened a bistro in the heart of Potsdam. This is a new addition to their former concept. Along with their baked goods they offer sandwiches, soups, quiches, hearty salads, cakes and little tartlets. The interior is nicely chosen: warm and welcoming (created by Martina Haag). But I was really disappointed by the service. The seller behind the counter seemed stressed and annoyed by someone ordering something. And this actually has a whole impact on your visit. The coffee wasn’t hot enough from the beginning which is why it cooled out too quickly. In total it was nice to try and the food was good but I guess I will not come back because of the unfriendly service and the cold coffee. Sweet Treat in Potsdam: Krümelfee

Cupcakes, small sweet treats varying in color, flavor and form. Normally we are not such big fans of these super sweet bits but those served at the Café Krümelfee are really enjoyable. Just the right amount of icing and size to be satisfied but not over-sweetened. You cans also enjoy a vegan creation if you wish. If you are suffering a lactose intolerance or just prefer other types of milk you will be happy here. Besides normal milk they also have soy milk in their range. And if you need a nice catering company they are happy to help you out. Healthy in Potsdam: good dEATs

The healthy eating trend is still growing strong and little cafés pop up like flowers in spring. Good dEATs, located in the heart of Potsdam, is another of these healthy spots. Everything served here is vegan. Mainly they offer breakfast and cakes as well as little chocolate bites. On Friday evening you can enjoy some vegan burgers. Culture in Potsdam/Berlin: Frauensache

A few weeks ago I had the great chance to visit Schloss Sanssouci (a local sightseeing highlight) on aMonday, a day when the doors normally stay closed for the public. From the 22nd of August until the 22nd of November the Stiftung Preußischer Schlösser und Gärten will be hosting the exhibition “Women’s Business. How Brandeburg became Prussia“. In this the Hohenzollern women are the center of attention, how they shaped the country, what goals they had and how ambitious they were. The main exhibition will be held at Schloss Charlottenburg in Berlin, in other castles such as Sanssouci, the visitors will find little information boxes for this purpose. Schloss Charlottenburg – Theaterbau Spandauer Damm 10 14059 Berlin closed on Mondays / Tuesday – Sunday 10am till 6pm Adult 14 € / discounted 10 € What To Wear

Breakfast in Potsdam: Biosphäre

When you are searching for a very special place to have breakfast, the Biosphäre Potsdam offers a unique experience to you. You can have brunch in their café, in between tropical plants, a fish pond where koi fish and turtles swim around and occasionally a parrot will fly by. However this is not a place for a spontaneous breakfast. You got to plan your visit in advance (at least two days before) and make a reservation. Plus, wear something light since the temperature is tropical inside. Dinner in Potsdam: My Keng

For the locals this place isn’t a big surprise but we still want to share it with all of you. My Keng is mainly know as a sushi bar in the heart of Potsdam serving also many other delicious dishes. All food they serve are absolutely delicious and super fresh. The open kitchen offers a direct insight and you can observe how your dish is prepared. The price range is average for good sushis. Avocado Makis cost 4.50 € and Anago Makis (salt water eel) cost 5.00 € – see these two in the pictures above. As a drink we highly recommend their Chanh Da a lime, mint and brown sugar mixture – super refreshing (coasting 3.80 €). Lunch in Potsdam: Backstoltz

Ok, so here comes my absolut favorite place in Potsdam for lunch AND a sweet treat (but that will be worth another post). First I would like to introduce to you Backstoltz as a spot for lunch. They have a daily changing card with a variation of dishes. You will always find different quiche’s and soups (around € 4,00) on their menu, too. The prices are really good and adequate. Main courses can cost from 7 to 15 euros, depending on what they offer. A quiche with a salad costs € 5,50 and is really enough for lunch. For € 1,20 you can add a big salad to the dish. On that day I enjoyed a goats cheese with fresh fruits, salad and baguette for € 8,90 – a true sensation! They also serve a delicious breakfast until 12pm. Sweat Treat in Potsdam: Fräulein Jakobine

Finally there is a place in Potsdam where you can buy some Macarons! A friend of mine got married last week and I was looking for some macarons which would complete my gift for the bridal couple. And tadaa I found THE place. Besides that Fräulein Jakobine (owned by lovely Anne Gersitz) is a little café where you can also enjoy some coffee, different cakes, muffins and weekly changing lunch dishes. A macaron costs € 1,40 and they serve many different, always changing flavors. You can sit inside or outside when the weather allows it. Coffee to go is also available. The price list for the drinks you find in these pictures. I didn’t find the time to enjoy a warm coffee there but was able to try the cold brew coffee quick which I really liked. Nice on a warm day! Fräulein Jakobine Am Bassin 11 14467 Potsdam open Tuesday – Sunday / 11am – 6pm

Must visit in Potsdam: Park Sanssouci Part I

It’s an early sunny Sunday morning and I’m out snapping some ballet pictures. Choosing the right location in Potsdam actually isn’t that easy because during the summer season there are so many tourists around town, running through every picture. If you ever come to beautiful Potsdam you must visit Park Sanssouci. Want a tipp? Get up really early in the morning, head to the park and just breath in this perfect place. You will possibly only meet some joggers or dog walkers. Around every corner you will find something new – let it be a magnificent building, a bubbling fountain or some beautiful flowers. You can visit the whole park grounds for free. If you want to visit one of the buildings you need to buy a ticket. These are just a few pictures, soon there will come some more.

Lunch in Potsdam: Burgerbüro

This places isn’t really new here in Potsdam but as it is with all those local places, you never go there. But since we want to provide you with some great to-go-to food destinations we tried this restaurant/imbiss for you. Burgerbüro is located in Potsdam-Babelsberg, not in the main center of the city actually. You come in and pull a number which is your pick-up code in the end. Mainly you come here for the burgers, of course. The Country Burger was super delicious and costs € 4,60 (if you add extra cheese it’s € 0,60 more). If you want some fries do share them if you go together with someone, the portion is enough for two since the burger is really big and filling. After this you honestly don’t need a dessert and try to come with a rather empty stomach.
