Personal Issue: About confidence and self-doubt

You probably ask yourself how the terms confidence and self-doubt fit into one post but I promise you: they can. Through out the last few months I have been working on the ballet production of my dance school which is always fun but also very stressful. One week before the premiere takes place, we bring everything on stage and rehearse for long hours in order to deliver a marvelous performance. I always become very excited when this week arrives since its the moment I love the most; the moment when we go on stage for the first time and feel the rush of adrenaline running through my body. Nevertheless it is also the moment I feel the most vulnerable, I have to figure out if everything I have plotted together in my mind comes together and if I can fill this huge space with, well, just my facial expression and the choreography my body fulfills. The stage therefore has become a place of confidence and self-doubt for me. I feel the pressure, resting on my …

MC Talk with Johannes Heinrichs

Johannes Heinrichs is a Potsdam-based actor, which I met during a project at the theatre. He got his acting education in Ulm and Babelsberg, both re-woned academies for acting. He is also known for acting in numerous tv productions, for example “Club der roten Bänder”, an addictive series which aired on Vox in 2016. I always act spontaneously. Becoming an actor was a project that came up slowly and gradually when I was a teenager. What do you always take with you when you travel? Lip care, fishermen’s friend (spearmint) and music (!!!) What is your favorite spot on earth? I’m not sure I ‘ve already found that favorite spot on earth. San Francisco was great, but I think a little hut near the beach in the Caribbean would be much more interesting. What is one thing …

The magic of working at the theater

Since nine years I have been a part of the Dance Academy Marita Erxleben. Each year we create a ballet inspired by a fairy tale. Over the years this has become a true tradition for me and since 2013 I started to snap some backstage pictures during rehearsals and performances. I love pictures taken from the audience area but my favorites are those that take you behind the main stage. This is the actual location where all the magic happens in my opinion. You can feel the tension, the excitement and the passion everyone shares. Here you see moments of joy, anxiety and anticipation. If you ever get the chance to work at a theater, take it. Here you are able to experience new roles and just escape the daily life.
