Sweet Treat in New York: Ample Hills Creamery

I seriously have never ever tried a better ice cream than this one served by Ample Hills Creamery (this was at Gotham West Market).

Starting with the flavors – they offer some classics as well as some you never heard of: The Munchies, Salted Crack Caramel, Ooly Gooly Butter cake, Peppermint Pattie and many more. Even a dark chocolate one mixed with Guiness beer.

And guess what, at the moment they offer a ice cream Star Wars limited edition:
the light and the dark side!

Ten Things I learned about living in New York City

New York, New York,
City of endless possibilities, where dreams come true…

1. There is probably nothing you cannot do in New York City. It doesn’t matter if it’s nightlife, food or other experiences, you’ll probably find it somewhere in the city. That is what makes living in New York so amazing and exciting!

2. Yes, the city is crazy expensive, we have to admit. In New York, if you want a unique experience, you have to pay for it. That is probably one of the reasons people are this ambitious to make it in this city and to be able to afford a nice life here.

3. In New York, everything is extreme. I believe that there is no mediocre or “normal” way and one could say that the amplitudes are just wider than anywhere else.

4. If you want to survive in this jungle, you have to be tough. There is no place on earth that teaches you that the way New York does.

5. New York is an extremely inspiring city. You only have to walk through the streets and keep your eyes open and eventually you will see, learn things that will inspire you. Whether they will inspire you to start your own business, to bring ideas overseas or just to organize your life in a different way. I believe you can and will find some kind of inspiration in New York that will bring your life aspirations a step further.

6. You can learn a lot in this city. The offer of cultural activities, especially in the architecture and art field is sheer endless. Take for example the Metropolitan Museum of Art – I have been there at least 6 times during my stay and I still haven’t even seen half of the treasures it exhibits.

7. Living in New York is like living in a movie. You will constantly just walk by these super famous places and you’ll constantly feel like you are somehow walking through a dream (or a movie set, for that matter).

8. Concerning fitness and dancing, New York is probably the best address to try out different workouts for your body. I tried out a couple of different options when I was here and so did Vanessa, starting from dance lessons at Broadway Dance Center and Alvin Ailey Center, to Yoga at Laughing Lotus , Modelfit dance cardio and Pure Barre workout. All different workouts were totally worth it and I love to find new ways on how to strengthen my body. It’s always nice to try out different kinds of workouts and see which ones have what effects on you. So when you get the chance to train in NYC you should totally do it!

9. One of the real charms of New York is that you can stay within the city but feel completely different in various areas. The city is so varied, there is always something new to discover. The Upper East Side, Downtown, the West Village or Williamsburg. All these areas are completely different worlds and it makes a lot of fun to explore them!

10. People who live in New York may have a hard surface, but inside they are all just humans searching for their determination in life and willing to work hard to reach their goals.

My Ten Favorite Places In New York

1. Probably my favorite place in New York is the Met Museum. I love that you never have to stand in line and can just casually decide to go there and spend the afternoon. I also love that there is so many different kinds of art, you can look at impressionist paintings but as well visit the Egyptian wing or see an exact replica of a Moroccan patio in a Riad. I think you can learn a lot and this museum is one of the greatest there is.

2. When you are living in New York you will soon realize that the Central Park is as essential to your life as the air you are breathing. Literally, when you have passed a week between skyscrapers and in subway tunnels, you will feel like you can finally breathe again once you enter this amazing park.

3. In New York, like every other city probably you should spend your Saturdays with a lovely long brunch with friends before continuing to stroll around through your favorite neighborhood. A favorite brunch place is definitely Two Hands in Soho. I basically love everything they have, from their masterly acai bowls, over their heavenly banana bread to their avocado toast.

4. It’s a must to eat a good pizza once you are in New York and frankly there is tons of places you can go to. My favorite pizza spot though is Roberta‘s in Brooklyn.

5. Once you have seen all the essentials and touristy sights of the city, you will probably end up in the West Village. That is usually the younger and less tourist crowded part of the city. There are numerous good restaurants and cafés as well as small shops.

6. The Brooklyn Bridge is not only one of the symbols of New York City, at the same time it is a really cool place to spend time and admire the city skyline. Start with having some ice cream from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory (be careful, two scoops are literally like four!) and make your way to the other side.

7. Another favorite spot of mine is the Chelsea Market. It’s a huge hall with countless different food corners and small shops. You can try food from all over the world and buy exquisite products to prepare by yourself at home. Chelsea Market is like heaven for food lovers and food shoppers.

8. My favorite coffee place is Devocion in Williamsburg. Their café has an extraordinary atmosphere and the Columbian coffee tastes like more.

9. I love to watch the sunset with a drink in hand on the rooftop terrace of the Wythe Hotel in Williamsburg. The view of Manhattan is breathtaking and the atmosphere is vibrant.

10. Another great place to take a walk is the High Line. I love to go there no matter what weather or time of the year. Ideally, after I walked the High Line I would stop by at Bluebottle coffee and get a nice soy cappuccino before I head to Chelsea market for some shopping.

Must see in New York: Columbia University

On a beautiful autumn day we grabbed the chance to visit the main campus of the famous Columbia University (hello, Gossip Girl!).

The whole area is really beautiful arranged, calm and worth visiting for an afternoon. Instantly you would love to study here just because of the relaxed atmosphere. It certainly feels like a different world than New York City – a get-away for heart and soul.

Lunch in Washington: SKWR

Since my trip to Washington was just limited to one day, I had to choose in advance where I want to enjoy a good lunch. While searching I came across this place called SKWR kabobline where they serve the eastern art of kabob.

At the beginning you choose between bowl (with rice) or wrap and then you start refine it: spreads (e.g. Hummus, Chutney), proteins (e.g. chicken, steak, lamb), toppings (e.g. chickpeas, mint) and sauces (e.g. pesto peste).

Everything is freshly prepared and served with love. The meat is tender, the sauces diverse and the toppings delicious.

Culture in Washington: National Gallery of Art

Through my Art History studies I knew that the National Gallery of Art in Washington had a lot of art but when I walked through the breath-taking building I was still mesmerized.

The whole museum is so beautifully arranged and the pieces are delicately hanged or placed in the rooms. For a art fan a true bliss! But most of all I was fascinated by the East and West Garden Court – a tropical oasis were I just could have stayed forever.

And best part? All of this is for f r e e!

If you want to visit this museum make sure to plan your day around it. It takes time but is certainly worth it.

Blogger Xmas Workshop

Last week we travelled to Hamburg for a day to participate in the annual blogger Xmas workshop designed around the P&G prestige perfumes.

We enjoyed some DIY workshops that included designing our own christmas tree balls, gift boxes and cupcakes – all inspired by different perfume lines, namely James Bond 007, Christina Aguilera and Bruno Banani. It was a super fun day and really got us into the right mood for Christmas.

Thanks for having us Headspace PR! Christmas Shopping – ho ho ho
