Culture in Amsterdam: La Dame Aux Camélias

Going out to see a Ballet performance is one of our favorite things to do together. So of course we couldn’t miss the beautiful performance of “La Dame Aux Camélias” by the Het National Ballet.

The performance was breath-taking, we were so captivated by the exceptional choreography, which displayed very powerful, emotional moves.

Apart from this, the National Opera and Ballet of Amsterdam is an extraordinary building with a view on the canals at sunset.

Lacoste Blogger Workshop

Some days ago, we were lucky enough to be invited to the Lacoste blogger event in Frankfurt am Main, where their male perfume collection “Eau de Lacoste” was presented.

We had an exceptionally lovely day and were welcomed warmly by the team of Headspace PR. What followed was a perfect mix of hanging out with lovely people, enjoying the sun, learning and discovering interesting facts about perfume and indulging a delicious menu.

We enjoyed a menu created in all five colors of the fragrance line – blue, red, white, yellow and black. For each course, the table decoration was adjusted so it would fit the color of the respective dish, in order to fortify the colored experience.

One of this day’s highlights was that we were able to assist the great cooking team with the two main courses and were especially happy to learn some tips how to prepare the recipes ourselves.

Apart from this, a professional color psychologist and the Lacoste perfume developer enlightened the group with intriguing knowledge about scents and their different appeals.

All in all, we can tell that each of the scents has a very sophisticated effect and you are even able to “smell” the respective color of the bottle. You should totally try this out yourselves – smell the scent and let your imagination run wild on what associations you might have. A scent has so many different facets and it is more than interesting to discover them!

Thank you so much for this extraordinary experience Lacoste and Headspace PR!

Ten Things I learned when living in Paris

1. Paris is the place build of the most beautiful and romantic architecture. Full stop. It is a pleasure and privilege to be able to walk through these countless beautiful streets and see all the famous monuments.

2. After my time in Paris I am now officially unable to eat crêpes in any other country than France. Others just don’t get it – they never taste the same. You can find my favorite crêpes store in Montmartre, in Rue des Abbesses.

3. When in Paris, you should stick to drinking black coffee. It is a waste of time and effort to try to get a nice cappuccino – the Parisians don’t believe in milky mix drinks really. And you won’t regret it since the black coffee is just far better in France!

4. The French style is a unique token of elegance in this world. It is hard to imitate and even harder to learn but it is the real deal. Only French women manage to look this elegant in a striped t-shirt and jeans with Ballerina flats. Or this very fine French lingerie underneath a thin, knitted sweater. Or pull off that perfectly bright Chanel red lipstick as naturally as we comb our hair.

5. Don’t make the mistake to compare Paris with the rest of France. Paris is a separate entity within this country and you can feel it – Paris is the superlative of everything the French are known and famous for. Apparently, I have to say that Parisian people are very well aware of their special status and they tend to show it to you.

6. Paris is most beautiful at night. When you are in Paris, you should not miss the opportunity to take a midnight stroll through the old streets.

7. Paris is a Mekka for lovers of culture. The city offers one of the widest ranges ever to view beautiful art and it seems to be all over the city. I can only recommend to take advantage of this fact, however allow for a little more time since exhibitions of all kinds tend to be crowded.

8. When you are in Paris, you shouldn’t rush. Allow yourself to find a bench in Palais Royale or Jardin du Luxembourg to sit down and read a book in the sun from time to time. Generally, the French like to take their time and you should try to do the same. This can give a lot of peace!

9. I already mentioned the delicious Parisian crêpes above, so let me make one thing clear: in Paris, you don’t count calories (well, generally you probably shouldn’t but especially not in Paris). Enjoy all the culinary experiences you can get, because you will most likely not be able to get some of them anywhere else. I’m talking frog legs, mussels, coq au vin, tarte tatin, croissants, escargots, tarte aux framboises, macarons, baguette, and so on and so forth… Enjoy!

10. I have always loved to sit outside if the weather allows it. Somehow, I felt like in Paris I was extremely drawn to sit in the sun in a café, enjoying a chilled glass of white wine and doing nothing but enjoying life. Generally, the French have a unique way of living life to the fullest. I feel like one should try to take in most of this positive energy hence integrate it into our own philosophy of life.

Getting in the Parisian Mood

Breakfast in Amsterdam: Bagels ‘n’ Beans

Even though Bagels ‘n’ Beans is a chain, having their cafés all over the Netherlands, I really like the place for having a small snack and a coffee.

You can select from a wide variety of bagels as well as healthy breakfast dishes, smoothies and juices, that are all freshly made and very tasty.

Drinks in Amsterdam: Skylounge

The Skylounge Amsterdam has a breathtaking panoramic view of the whole city – there are even “sky maps” that explain which buildings you can see, first thing when you enter the bar.

The place is a meeting point for Amsterdamers and internationals from all over the world. It has a very cozy but straightforward and cosmopolitan atmosphere.

You may either have coffee but truly this place lives up at night, when they serve the best cocktails in town. We can recommend the “Sky Thai” – an exotic version of Mai Thai served in a small Tikki cup.

If you want to go all in, you’ll have to get “the Bartender’s skull”, which is a huge glass of a cocktail of your choice to share with your friends.

Green Amsterdam Backyards

In this simple outfit the focus clearly is on this beautiful, coral red dress by Kiomi.

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t too friendly in Amsterdam at this point in time, but I am already looking forward to combining this lovely dress with some strappy sandals and a lighter jacket in summer.

This color definitely gets us into the mood for warmer degrees!

Crystals and Lace

Wearing luxurious, high quality tights can enhance a girl’s life notably: you’ll instantly feel beautiful and do not need to worry about ripping or else.

We were lucky enough to be able to test these elegant tights from the Wolford luxury collection. Each pair is adorned with Swarovski elements and/ or finest lace.

We are absolutely in love with each of them!

Brunch in Amsterdam: CT Coffee and Coconuts

The building was a former cinema, build in the roaring twenties and you may see it – the place has a crazy interior of different levels and big black white photographs on the walls refer to movie stars and personalities with a cult status.

CT Coffee&Coconuts is one of the best brunch places in Amsterdam. Apart from its cool interior that has something exotic the café serves delicious coffee and homemade tasty food.

We can only highly recommend the full CT breakfast, which is a selection of all available breakfast specialities. You’ll get coconut pancake, a small granola, bread with avocado and eggs and mature dutch cheese. You’ll love it, we promise!

Prinsengracht

Amsterdam style is rather laid back and tends to be practical. The ultimate test for each clothing item here is to determine whether you are able to ride a bike with it.

That is why I mostly stick to comfy clothes and don’t struggle with complex outfits during daily life.

My ten favorite places in Paris

After living in Paris for half a year, I was lucky enough to experience many places and see everything that I had planned in advance.

Therefore, I figured it might be interesting to share my best tips with you guys – maybe for your next city trip to Paris!

1. Buvette has the best breakfast in town!

2. Le Palais Royale is a very beautiful place to stroll, have a nice coffee or just sit and read a book.

3. Take a walk along the Seine when the sun goes down.

4. Le Coq Rico has a really nice ambiance and lovely chicken dishes. Try the Cross Hermitage red wine with it – it’s divine!

5. Père Lachaise is a real experience. I believe it is the loveliest in autumn, when the leaves are colored in yellow, orange and red. This place is so peaceful yet so interesting.

6. St.Germain des Près is a perfect area to do some shopping, visit the Jardin du Luxembourg and sip some coffee in the sun.

7. Les Puces (Porte Clignancourt) is one of the biggest flea markets in Europe. I believe that you can find some real treasures there, no matter if it’s an old issue of Vogue, a fur coat or vintage furniture and lamps for your apartment.

8. In the Latin Quarter you are able to find the best Falafel, but you will have a stand in line for fifteen minutes in peak times.

9. For ballet lovers like me the Opéra (Palais Garnier) is definitely the highlight of a stay in Paris. I did both the guided tour by day and visited a real performance at night. The place was the most fabulous you could imagine and the dance was simply breathtaking.

10. Last but not least: Montmartre is one of the most beautiful areas in Paris, even though it is very touristic. Enjoy the view from Sacre Coeur at night and stroll around the Abbesses area. It is truly wonderful.
