Almost Home

Its still cold outside in Berlin so there is no other option than to cuddle-up and work on your layering skills. Taking these pictures took us maybe five minutes but the street corner was so freezing because of the wind breaking. We were so happy it didn’t take us long. The new week is again filled with quite a few appointments and university (yeah – but its the last week!). Time to make some coffee dates with friends and catch-up on the past couple of weeks. Coffee in Berlin: Doppio Pazzo

Do you know this feeling when you walk through your neighborhood and spot something new that seems worth a visit? This just happened to us when we spotted Doppio Pazzo, a small café serving delicious coffee and various cakes, pastries, salads and breakfast treats. The clean interior kept in black, white and grey radiates a calm atmosphere and you can easily stay here for one or two hours. The coffee was served quickly, hot and had a delicious flavor (they seem to use a good type of bean). The coffee is a bit more expensive, soy and almond milk cost extra but its worth the price. We had the chance to try their overnight oats which are which are gluten- and sugar free. You can enjoy this healthy snack there or as take-away. Home Workout Equipment

Some of you may already know that I’m a workout lover and therefore I considered it would be nice to give you a little overview on my equipment I use at home. Starting from left to right resistance band (red) I use this one mainly to do some feet exercise to strengthen my feet. Especially after my foot surgery was this my best workout-buddy Gaynor Minden Flexibility band (pink) It’s always important to stretch and in order to get more flexible I use this flexibility band to increase my side splits as well as working on my arabesque and á la second extensions (dance lovers will know what I’m talking about) light hand weights (pink) I got these from my Mum and try to do little exercise with them mainly in combination with sitting on the stability ball or lying in a bridge position. I don’t want too muscly arms which is why I always stretch after using them and try to do various workout routines Foam roller With the foam roller I want to …

Coconut Chia Snack

Here comes another delicious breakfast and on-the-go inspiration for you. This time it’s from the book Good to Glow by Tali Shine and Steph Adams. Make sure to prepare this one night in advance. What you need: 400ml coconut milk 20ml agave syrup 60g white chia seeds (I used black seeds) 500g coconut yogurt (it also works with plain yogurt) granola, seeds and fruits for garnishing “Combine coconut milk, agave syrup and chia seeds in a bowl and store in the fridge for two hours. Add the coconut yogurt and let it in the fridge over night. Put mixture (as much as desvered) into a small bowl and add granola, other seeds and berries of your choice.” – Good to Glow, p. 75

Personal Issue: About students, sense of shame and losing it all

The phenomenon I like to pick-up this time is something I have experienced quite often lately. But let us go back in time a little to get a starting point. Its Saturday evening and I head out with some friends for some drinks at the local student bar. The location is packed with people, students of all age and various study fields are gathered in this (hot)spot. A typical scenery where people encounter and mingle. In this atmosphere it is pretty easy to meet new people and talk about a range of topics. Especially first semester students are happy for spots like this one in order to dive into the student life they all have been dreaming of (which, I guess, is another topic to talk about..). The vast majority are fun people to get to know, even if it’s only for that one evening. But there are some students, mainly female, you instantly want to scream at: “Please, don’t act so embarrassing!” Yes, we all act a little different in situations where people are around we like …

Hot Chocolate Weather

Do you know this feeling? The feeling when you just want to stay at home and cuddle-up in bed? And in the same thought you just know that you won’t be able to do that? We would call it the winter blues and instantly hope it ends better sooner than later. The best thing to do during these cold days? Enjoy a good coffee or a hot chocolate with a friend. It seems simple but in todays hectic world it can become a true master skill to find a date were both have time. But its so necessary to make time for such occasions since it will give you strength for everything that is coming along.  Coat – Zara Boots – Tommy Hilfiger Scarf – Zara

January’s Favorites

The first month of the year is coming to an end and we are happy to share some of our favorite beauty / accessories additions with you. Half-moon necklace from H&M I bought this little cute necklace last week since it perfectly matches my kind-off jewelry obsession. It’s delicate, a little sparkly and offers a nice highlight to any casual outfit combination. Real Techniques makeup brushes These brushes make the application of makeup fun and easy. The brush itself is soft and the brand offers a good variety of products. Great quality for a great price. They are not as expensive as the Zoeva brushes but just as good. Maybelline Super Stay 7 Days nail polish Super easy to apply and a nice shade (Rose Veil nr. 882) for the season. I have not tried if they really stay for 7 days but it worked for three.

Quinoa with Yogurt, Raspberries and Walnuts Bowl

This Christmas I had quite a few cook books on my wish list and was super happy when most of them landed under the tree. This recipe is from the book The Grain Bowl (thank you, Swenja!) by Nik Williamson and I absolutely love making this breakfast bowl in the morning. What you need: Serves 2 65g Quinoa 250ml Almond or hazelnut milk 50g rolled oats 100g rasperries 4 tablespoons honey 120g whole (full-fat) yogurt 4 tablespoons chopped hazelnuts optional: I added blueberries and walnuts “Put the quinoa into a medium pan, pour in the almond milk and 250ml water and place over high heat. Bring to boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes. Add the oats and increase the heat to medium. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes, or until the porridge reaches the desired consistency. You may need to add up to 120ml more water if the quinoa absorbs too much liquid. Remove from the heat. Meanwhile, put the raspberries (and if also wanted blueberries) into a small …

Brunch in Berlin: Benedict

Berlin is such a vibrant, economically strong growing city that so many place pop-up around town like mushrooms. So many young, talented people come to Berlin to follow their dreams and establish a good growing business. One of those new in-locations is Benedict, an all-day breakfast spot close to Kurfürstendamm. Their menu is filled with typical breakfast dishes such as eggs benedict, omelettes, pancakes, french toast and granola dishes. We went for: – the vegan breakfast, a chickpea pancake with onions, corn and tomatoes. Served with delicious buns and three spreads (eggplant, tahini and beetroot humus) – the classic mini pancakes with maple syrup (favorite dish from our selection) – muesli with greek yogurt, fresh fruits and honey All in all it was a nice morning. If you consider going here make sure to have some time. When we arrived we had to put our names on a waiting list (they currently don’t take any reservations) and got our table about 20/25 minutes later. We both felt a little New-York-flash-back, there you always need to …

Saturday’s at the museum

Its been a while since we shared a post with you but we have been extremely busy lately and figured we only would like to come back posting, when we have more content to share with you. The past weeks I have been running between university lectures and dance training. Last October I started my M.A. study program (dance science) at the Freie Universität Berlin. After finishing my B.A. in art history and history I figured it was time to pick-up a field I dream of working in. Studying art history and history was good and I still consider working in this section but I’m really looking forward to expand my horizon in the dance science area. During the next weeks we will share more personal information with you, show you new places, offer some recipes and shopping details. These pictures were taken at the Hamburger Bahnhof, a museum offering a range of contemporary art. The collection permanently displayed is not my favorite (except the works of Warhol and Lichtenstein) one but the building itself …
